About Kanyarwunka

24 Oct 2008

Kanyarwunka is extremely playful – as many gorillas are! He is always jumping on Humba, fooling around with Semakuba or swinging in the vines. He often falls from the tree branches while trying to show off, and comes crashing down, but he never seems to hurt himself. These beautiful creatures are so resilient! Humba even sometimes lets him play near him – or on him!

He is very affectionate towards his mother.

Kanyarwunka was a gorilla tracker who was shot and killed by militias in 1996. We named this gorilla after him to honour his memory and to express our gratitude for his contribution to the protection of mountain gorillas.
